Some people that I met recently said that anti-viril meds help beet colds. Could that be? Does valtrex/acyclovir work on specifiacally the H virus, or is it more general?
Does anyone know?

H play parties...

Seeing how those without herpes seem to have a lot of adult fun, how hard to you think it would be to find individuals who would like to, say, have a play party? There are a few clandestine parties where couples, single females engage in sexual activity. Of course, all are welcome and it is the responsibility of the people who have the H to disclose that info to people who may want to play with them. I was just wondering, if such an option were available, would people be interested? Do we let the H run our lives, or do we run our own lives? Why shouldn't we get to have any fun?

I'm frustrated.

I'm sick and tired of having this fucking disease. I'm tired of the fear that it instills in people. I'm tired of not being able to fluid-bond with my partner because he doesn't want to catch it (he knows there's still a risk). I'm afraid of secretly wishing he would contract it so that we could get that over with already. I'm fucking tired of feeling like my body is disgusting and worthless like I was told when I was a child. I'm sick of there being no cure. I'm still mad as hell at the person who gave this to me without so much as a warning. I'm pissed off at the world for not understanding. I'm pissed off at myself for not being understanding enough.

Is anyone else as frustrated as I am?

Dating Tips?

Anyone have dating tips for those of us who are blessed with genital herpes? I have HSV-1 genitally. It's such a downer when hoping to be able to get involved with someone new. Even people I've dated for a while question the risk they take by continuing to date me...

I hate this. I really would hate to ever get someone else sick, but I deserve to be loved too! That's why I decided to go on Valtrex suppressive therapy, to help keep my partners more safe.

Herpes social in Baltimore area

Just sharing

We have a herpes social group in the Baltimore DC area that's been around for YEARS
Anyone wishing to join us check out the website here:
http://www.dc-h2o.com/

There is a get-together tonight. It says to RSVP but it's no biggie - come out and join us for some fun and support.
Once you go to that website just click on EVENTS and get the info there. Don't worry about confidentiality - we keep it on the DL. We don't announce what the group is about in public - just some friends getting together - mostly singles.

I've met some FABULOUS people this way and its a great source of strength and support to meet others in the same boat. And yes, we have had many couples meet and even marry thru this! :-)

Blessings,
FunFabulous
I know the statistics. I know people lie. And I know how many people don't know they have it.... but COME ON... I rarely see ads for it.

New to tribe, and to herpes?!

Hi y'all,

I'm the 7th person in this Tribe. Do we now need to change its name? ;)

I just went to Planned Parenthood today and was told that I have genital herpes. Wow - it's still sinking in. I don't know for certain until the test comes back, but I feel 98% sure.

I'm also 98% sure that I picked it up from a man who has oral herpes. We just had a good conversation about it. He knew he got it from his mother (during birth perhaps) but didn't know all the facts about how it spread. So anyway, my question is this: does anyone here have any experience with the oral type when it was transmitted to the genitals? What can I expect over the next year? Five years?

And what should I tell people about it? There is definitely less social stigma about Type I than Type II. But does is that the same if you say you contracted Type I in the nether regions? Have people you've told reacted more to where it was, what type it was, or just the simple fact that you had it?

Thanks! I haven't been able to find this info on line yet (although herpes.com has been a great help).

an outbreak

Good Morning,

Last month I had the worse outbreak that I have had in the whole 9 years of having herpes. I can't remember ever having so much discomfort. My whole body felt like a severe sunburn. I don't know if anybody can relate to that sunburn feeling. My outbreak usually have the same MO travel across my shoulder down my back clear down to the bottom of my foot. I am aware that herpes are often on nerve endings. The lesion is the least of the problem for me. It is all the other discomfort that comes along with it. I get flu like symptoms. This last time I felt like I had the flu and a sunburn. Rarely do people understand that this disease is often very debilitating. An outbreak is a constant reminder that I am different and that I have to lead my life in a very self preservationary way. Has anybody had a drastic change in the occurence of their outbreaks. Any advice, suggestions or support would be appreciated.

Bright Blessings,

Tristan

Good Afternoon,

My name is Tristan and I am new to this tribe. Nice to have come across it. I am have been living with Herpes for the past 9 years. The stigma of it sucks. It is frustrating. Even after 9 years it is still hard to tell a potential lover of the condition. I have had understanding lovers in the past..Up until recently. It is rather painful to be rejected because I was honest. Although the other person was not honest in the reason why they have decided to avoid me. I am usually quite capable of sitting down and explaining the disease. But this person did not even want to go there. It really did hurt me. But I suppose this frustration goes with the disease.

Bright Blessings,

Tristan
