Okay, so apparently I have the stuff. But never seen a symptom. How easy is it to spread?
And now that I'm on the fun acyclovir, how much does that lower the risk factor?

Re: asymptomatic?
Tue, June 15, 2004 - 6:07 PMahhhh, yes.
simpler than breathing. well, almost.
First, be sure to allow yourself the adjustment period of acknowledging you have it. I Went to the doctor, I cried for a day, comiserated with my partner who later learned she gave it to me and was done. I got on a dose of 2 acyclovir a day, and havent had a breakout since Nov 03.
There's a strange pride (sort of)I feel now, knowing I am carrying a 4 million year old organism and also knowing that most people don't know they have it or are denying it and being irresponsible in thier ignorance. I can at least tell them, and they can choose for themselves if they want to risk it with me.
this is the stuff your new prosective partner will cringe at:
all it takes is one teeny virus, shed from one teeny microscopic break in the skin, that comes in contact with any of thier microscopic breaks in the skin. Done deal. Now don't freak out, that's as bad as the news gets. Precautions help, and knowing your cycles as you will soon will limit the risk. It's a great way to get aquainted with your body.
Acyclovir is good and cheap; there are others for much more. Keep trying different antivirals till one works for you. Doctors have the specifics, of course.
And, welcome to the club....you are amongst many esteemed people! Don't let the stigma get you down!

Re: asymptomatic?
Fri, October 15, 2004 - 9:59 PMlindy boi,
I am sorry to hear that you have the disease. I have had it for years. It does take time to adjust. So give yourself that time. Eventually acceptance will come. I know the anger that comes with having herpes even the embarassment. I had a friend that told me that I was a good person and if somebody did not want to know me better because I have herpes; that person was not worth my time. Don't blame yourself for something somebody else gave you. It is not your fault. Take care of your health and your stress level.
Bright Blessings,
Tristan -

Re: asymptomatic?
Tue, April 26, 2005 - 1:26 PMWell, I'll be damned -- LB, we're both in AND YET another tribe together.
I can give you the 411 in a private message, but I'm part of a study at the DPH that's looking at folks who are HSV2+ but HIV- and trying to figure out the role of acyclovir in the process.
BTW, I'm completely asymptomatic, too and it's unnerving to never know when I'm *dangerous* and when I'm not.
Oh ... and hello to everyone else. Newbie here. Diagnosed 2 months ago, but I've prolly had it for ages. -
